Emulex is the leading supplier of Fiber Channel host bus adapters – a technology for transmitting data between computer devices three times faster than the Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) commonly used today. Approximately 70% of the world’s leading network suppliers, like IBM, Dell and Hewlett-Packard, select Emulex products to enhance system connectivity. To keep up with all the demand for their products, Costa Mesa, California-based Emulex tapped general contractor Snyder Langston and architects Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, Inc. to furnish tenant improvements for a three-building project with 180,000 s.f. of testing lab for their development and manufacturing operation.

This $12 million project is on a fast-track, 20-week turnaround. Due to the high-tech power and HVAC requirements of the facility, Snyder Langston worked closely with the core and shell contractor to carefully install all systems, including redundant power. In addition, the laboratory specifications of the project also integrated near-clean room standards with the manufacturing and distribution components of the program.
