- Seismic upgrades to this 5-story, 231-bed acute care hospital built in 1925.
- Work included reducing the overall floor plate size on each end of every floor in the entire Central Wing Tower increasing the seismic separation of the structure from 4 inches to 14 inches. Seismic joints were created in all MEP and FLS systems to allow for added seismic movement.
- Chilled water piping extended to accommodate the increase of seismic structure expansion.
- Won door added next to corridor expansion joint for fire safety
- Web stiffeners and tie beams were added to existing columns.
- Main corridors passing through the seismic joints were temporarily relocated to allow for the installation of new structural steel upgrades safely. To further enhance the structural performance of the building, existing cast-in-place concrete columns and beams were enlarged and encapsulated using fiber wrapping.
- Hazardous materials were encountered, tested, and abated throughout the sequences of work. Architectural improvement, ADA, Fire Life Safety, and MEP upgrades to restore existing conditions.
- All work was performed in critical service areas in an active and occupied hospital environment.
